A Burton charity which supports children who have found themselves in emergency care refuge centres has teamed up with a big-name supermarket.
The Buddy Bag Foundation, which was set up by Karen Williams, from Linton, has been voted as Swadlincote Sainsbury’s new Local Charity Partner for 2017 and 2018. The announcement comes after the store asked Swadlincote customers to vote for their favourite charity in the area.
The partnership officially launched earlier this month and customers can now choose to make a donation in-store if they wish.
The Buddy Bag Foundation provides essential items for children who are fleeing violent situations, and who often have to leave home quickly.
Over the next 12 months, the charity will benefit from Sainsbury’s Local Charity Partner scheme to help the team continue its work.
The Swadlincote Local Charity Partner last year was the air ambulance covering South Derbyshire and with the help of customers and colleagues, they raised more than £6,000 for the charity.
During the next 12 months, colleagues at the South Derbyshire store will be providing fund-raising support for The Buddy Bag Foundation and raising awareness of the charity with the surrounding community.
Sainsbury’s store manager Ian Partridge welcomed the partnership.
