Moor Hall Hotel & Spa in Sutton Coldfield presented The Buddy Bag Foundation with a cheque for £4,340 which was raised by the hotel staff in 2018 through a range of fundraising activities.
The Buddy Bag Foundation was Moor Hall’s chosen charity for 2018 and during the year the staff organised in a number of events to raise vital funds and awareness of the charity. The events included a Bake Off, Gymathon and a charity ball and funds were boosted by donations from the hotel’s popular Ascot Ladies’ Day Lunch.

About The Buddy Bag Foundation

The Buddy Bag Foundation was created in response to the rising number of children who enter emergency care after fleeing violent situations at home. Restoring a sense of safety into a child’s life during a traumatic time is one of the first steps to recovery and by providing these children with a few essential items in the Buddy Bag, the charity can help make the transition into emergency care a little easier.

In April, staff at Moor Hall took part in a Buddy Bag Brigade Pack which involved volunteers preparing 180 Buddy Bags for transportation to women’s refuges around the UK. Staff helped fill backpacks with essential supplies including pyjamas, toiletries, a photo frame, a knitted toy, a note book, a pen and a Buddy Bag teddy.

In July, staff built up a sweat in the name of the charity by taking part in a 12-hour gymathon. Volunteers included staff, guests, and gym members who rowed, cycled or ran continuously to cover over 200 miles.

In September, staff took part in a Great British Bake Off competition. The cakes were judged by Karen Williams from Buddy Bag Foundation and Angela Burns, CEO of Moor Hall Hotel for taste and decoration.

Sam Goss, General Manager of Moor Hall said: “We are delighted to have raised over £4,000 for The Buddy Bag Foundation in 2018 and I would like to thank staff and guests for supporting such a worthwhile charity.”

Karen Williams from The Buddy Bag Foundation commented: “Each Buddy Bag costs £25 so this donation means that 172 children will receive a much-needed bag when in emergency care, which is an amazing achievement. We thank Moor Hall for supporting our charity in 2018”.

Chosen Charity for 2019

Moor Hall’s fundraising efforts do not stop there, as in 2019 the hotel will be supporting YMCA Sutton Coldfield, a local children’s charity that offers support and respite to young carers and to children and adults with physical and learning disabilities. In addition, they provide accommodation and support for young people and care leavers with nowhere to go and they deliver life coaching and intense family support for disengaged young people from deprived areas of Sutton Coldfield.
