The partnership between a Swadlincote store and a charity supporting children who have found themselves in emergency care refuge centres has been officially launched.
The Buddy Bag Foundation, which was set up by Karen Williams, from Linton, has been voted as Swadlincote Sainsbury’s new Local Charity Partner for 2017 and 2018. The announcement comes after the store asked Swadlincote customers to vote for their favourite charity in the area.
The charity will now receive a year’s worth of support through fund-raising and raising awareness from the store. Representatives from the charity joined Sainsbury’s workers to kick-start the partnership with a launch event.
Mrs Williams said: “Thank you to everyone who came to support us at Sainsbury’s Swadlincote over the weekend. We’re really excited to have been chosen as the store’s new Local Charity of the Year as the partnership will help us to raise the profile of the work we do in the local community.”
Ian Partridge, store manager at Sainsbury’s Swadlincote in Civic Way, said: “We had a very successful launch for our new Local Charity of the Year. I’d like to thank all of our customers for their support on the day and can’t wait to see how the partnership develops over the next year.”
The Local Charity of the Year scheme is now in its ninth year and has raised more than £13 million to support local charities since 2009.
