Corporate Giving
Alexion embraces the communities in which they operate. To help tackle pressing social needs in their communities, they support non-profit organisations with monetary grants and harness the power of their global workforce for a Global Day of Service, during which they work with charitable organisations around the world.
Each team member is given a day away from their usual work to do something that contributes or gives something back to the communities they operate in.
Their aim is to support projects that particularly help vulnerable people.
Team members are all given the time to do anything which might help those less fortunate than themselves. Giving up their time to volunteer, raise money, do charity work – anything that they feel may benefit an individual or an organisation needing support.
Global Day of Service 26 September 2019
This year the UK team chose to support The Buddy Bag Foundation.
Their team of 35 employees held their own Buddy Bag Brigade, collectively and carefully packing 180 Buddy Bags with essential items to support children entering emergency care.
Jenny Kent, Key Account Manager at Alexion Pharma UK explains,
“There were tears and laughs as we learnt about the amazing work the Buddy Bag Foundation does.
As we packed the bags we gave a hug and a kiss to the teddies as we placed them in the rucksacks and tried to imagine the positive impact that a small gift might have on the child rushed into emergency care.
We also took time to reflect on the plight of the women and how they must be affected and really hope the positive affirmation message cards will give them a little boost too in what must be incredibly difficult times for them.
We were extremely proud that we were able to support such a worthwhile cause.”
Immediately following the bag pack, team members delivered the bags filled with the essential items and lots of love to six local refuge centres. Their team members commented on how humbled they felt to be a part of such a wonderful cause.
Before 26 September 2019, the team at Alexion was unaware that so many children – almost 50,000 in the UK are placed into emergency care each year and many of those involved on the day have expressed an interest in continuing to support the foundation.
Jenny added, “We would like to thank Karen for her amazing work, the day touched our lives in so many ways.”
