A Birmingham charity has received a donation of £9,000 from the team at Amazon in Sutton Coldfield.
The donation was made to The Buddy Bags Foundation which provides children in emergency care with backpack containing toiletries, pyjamas, underwear, and comfort items such as a book and teddy bear.
Alongside the donation, a team of 102 volunteers from the Sutton Coldfield fulfilment centre helped pack the charity’s Buddy Bags over three volunteering sessions.
Amazon has been a long-time supporter of The Buddy Bags Foundation. The company’s teams in the West Midlands donated over £9,000 to the charity last year, while also supporting through volunteering programmes.
Andrei Paiu was part of the team of volunteers that visited the charity. He said:
“We really enjoyed our day volunteering at The Buddy Bags Foundation to support children in emergency care. I think it’s great Amazon is supporting its incredible work once again.”
Karen Williams from The Buddy Bag Foundation added:
“On behalf of all our staff and volunteers, I’d like to say a big thank you to Amazon for this donation. We loved having some members of the team help us pack our Buddy Bags. This support will go a long way to help children in emergency care to feel safe and cared for during such a difficult period of their young lives.”
Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon has supported more than 500,000 students across the UK with free computer science and STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer.
Amazon helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good, including more than seven million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in partnership with Magic Breakfast. And through its Multibank initiative, co-founded with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Amazon has supported more than 200,000 families experiencing poverty, with the donation of more than 2 million surplus essential goods.
Amazon partners with Comic Relief to help people tackle poverty and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and tackle issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, and food insecurity across the UK, and around the world.
