At Eight Group, we like to think we’re pretty hands-on when it comes to doing good. As a Certified B Corporation, it’s not just about ticking boxes or making pledges—it’s about actually rolling up our sleeves and getting stuck in. So, when Chris from The Buddy Bag Foundation joined us at our Nottingham office, we couldn’t wait to dive in and help pack some Buddy Bags.
For those not in the know, The Buddy Bag Foundation is a brilliant charity that provides essential backpacks to children entering emergency care. Each Buddy Bag is packed with things like toiletries, pyjamas, socks, underwear, a book, and of course, a teddy bear, because every child deserves a little comfort, no matter the circumstances. Chris explained to us the power of these bags and that for the recipient, they offer security and a sense of normality in what is a really tough time.
On the day, our whole team came together and really got involved in listening to Chris and then going out to the factory floor to pack the bags. There was a real buzz around the office as we assembled the Buddy Bags, with everyone talking about the impact it will have on the children. It’s amazing how quick the day to day ‘work’ and ‘urgency’ can disappear when you get stuck in to something as important and rewarding as this.
Doing this kind of hands-on work really hit home for all of us. It’s easy to write a cheque and feel good about it (not that there’s anything wrong with that!), but there’s something special about actually doing something. Seeing all those bags packed and knowing they’re going directly to children who need them gave us all a massive sense of pride—and even a little lump in the throat.
As a B Corp, giving back is part of our DNA. It’s not just about being responsible—it’s about being proactive. That’s why we jumped at the chance to partner with The Buddy Bag Foundation. Their mission is so important, and it’s a perfect fit with our belief that businesses should be a force for good.
This isn’t just a one-off. We’re in it for the long haul. Packing Buddy Bags is just the start of what we hope will be an ongoing relationship with this amazing charity. We’ve got big plans to keep the good vibes rolling and to support their work however we can in the future. We also plan to spread the word far and wide in the B Corp community.
For now, though, we’ll just say a huge thank you to The Buddy Bag Foundation for letting us be part of their fantastic mission. And to anyone reading this who’s tempted to get involved—do it. We’ve packed all sorts of projects on our hand fulfilment line in the factory, but nothing quite as special or important as this one!
