Buddy Bag Packing Event Q3 2018

In October, more than 40 volunteers from the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team across the UK packed 360 Buddy Bags for children entering emergency accommodation
in Merseyside and the Midlands.

Each year, 48,000 children require emergency accommodation in the UK and often arrive in just the clothes they are wearing. Many of these children receive Buddy Bags which contain all the essential items a child needs, as well as comfort items such as a book, photo frame and teddy bear.

They not only help to restore a sense of safety and security into a child’s life during this difficult time but can also make the transition into emergency care a little easier. By providing these children with a few essential items, the Buddy Bag Foundation, and any supporting companies who run events, can help make the transition into emergency care
a little easier.

As well as giving their time to pack these important bags, during two sessions in Gaydon and Halewood, the amazing JLR volunteers raised £7,000 to pay for the contents by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, walking the Three Highest UK Peaks, as well as collecting any donations.

Karen Williams, Founder of Buddy Bag Foundation, said:

“On behalf of the Buddy Bag Foundation a massive thank you for another very successful, well organised Buddy Bag Brigade. We love working with JLR. You are professional, dedicated and very caring and really make a difference to the community. Making a difference to 360 children is amazing.”

Halewood lead Ciarán Eyre, Paint Programmes Engineer, said:

“Being part of the Social Impact committee for AME, I had been waiting for an event to lead and I am so glad it was Buddy Bags. What a fantastic charity it is and with the support of Karen, our event was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the team at Halewood. Can’t wait for the next one!”

Gaydon lead Garry Peasland, BIW Business Office Lead Engineer, said:

“We are all very proud to fundraise and volunteer for such a worthy cause and let the children know that there are people out there who care and are thinking of them.”

The Buddy Bag Foundation was founded in 2015 to help make a difference to the 48,000 children entering emergency care every year in the UK. We supply these children with a Buddy Bag, or other essential items, to help restore a sense of comfort and love.
